Inspired by true events, BELOW ZERO is a creative and smart thriller independent film that does not fail to entertain and keep you thinking and alert. The story basically revolves around a washed up screenwriter who is facing writer’s blocks and has to come up with a script before a deadline to save his career. He decides to lock himself up in a meat cooler inside a slaughter house to try and come up with a script which he bases on him being locked in a meat cooler.

The idea is very clever and you get in a stage in the movie where his reality and his fiction and intertwined on different levels. This story was actually based on the film’s screenwriter Signe Olynyk who actually had writer’s blocks and locked herself inside a meat cooler (the same one used in filming this movie) to live the experience herself and write the story about it.

This a very clever movie and very smart twists which is rarely seen in movies of the same horror/thriller genre. The film stars two icons from this genre, Edward Furlong and Michael Berryman. They gave an outstanding performance which in addition to the clever script produced a very interesting and enjoyable film.
