Director: Michael R. Roskam

Country: Belgium

Year: 2011

Starring Matthias Schoenaerts who was the lead in (my opinion) one of the most underrated films of 2010 PULSAR, director Michael Roskam in his full feature film debut brings this well made character-study themed crime drama. The story revolves around a young cattle farmer (Jacky) who gets haunted by a tragic secret from his childhood due to sheer coiencedence when he gets in the middle of a crime related to the Belgium mafia.

What makes this movie stand out in my opinion is how raw it is, and how you can get the mood and the emotions without over-acting or over-directing. Shoenaerts does a superb job as the lead role. Unlike many of similar films of this genre, the story actually does not matter in this film as much as the evolution and the character study of the main character and how his personality unviels as the events roll. A very well made film and worthwatching especially since it is nominated for Best Foriegn Film in the 2012 Oscars.
