Starring Marcello Mastroianni, “Divorce Italian Style” is a very well made smart Italian comedy about a Sicilian baron who was bored of life with his wife but can’t divorce her since it is illegal by the church. He fall in love with his young cousin and decides that it’s time to do something to change his life.

Mastroianni is brilliant as always and the story is very well executed. The events of the film are well divided in a way that won’t get you bored yet you won’t feel that the film is rushed. Even the comedy you find here isn’t your typical slapstick comedy which was popular at that time, but a very smart and ironic type of comedy.

The film is of the type where the film is very enjoyable but everything is just a setup for the final scenes where the big reward comes in and wraps the whole thing up in a very ironic way. Whether you have seen any of Mastroianni’s films before or not, this is a must watch.
